THEMATIC COMPARISON PARAGRAPH BETWEEN THE INCREDIBLES AND LATHER AND NOTHING ELSE
Kristina Jansen
Hernando Tellez’s short story Lather and Nothing Else and Pixar’s The Incredible both have a similar theme. Both stories display how our actions determine our identity and how our roles determine our actions. The two stories show us how our actions can become who we are so fast. In the short story Lather and Nothing Else the barber was in quite a predicament. He wanted o kill Torres for what he has done to these innocent people. “I could cut his throat, so, swish! He would not even have time to moan, and with his eyes shut he would not even see the shine of the razor or the gleam in my eye.” In the movie The Incredible a new villain named Syndrome rises to power because he wants to take revenge on Mr. Incredible. Syndrome takes advantage of the super hero’s powers to develop technologies that put their society in danger for his own entertainment and heroic behaviour. This shows how our actions can develop our personalities to who we think we might be. It also shows us how the movie and short story share a common theme together. Both narrative stories prove our roles as people influence our actions. In Lather and Nothing Else, their community shows us how Torres as a person is determined to follow his role as the leader of the government. Therefore he won’t stop until he has killed all of the rebels and revolutionary people that are going against the government. “Are you going to punish all of them?” I timidly ventured. “yes, all of them.”  In The Incredible they were supposed to save their society due to the roles they have been given as people. They all had super hero powers and they used those powers to save their community when it was under evil. Mr. Incredible and his family came together to save their world before it got destroyed by the villain Syndrome. In these two stories it shows us how our roles in life affect the outcome of our actions. It also indicates how people can be the main reason for our actions most the time.  Furthermore, both stories demonstrate how our actions can be good and bad for our society.  Lather and Nothing Else shows us that if we the barber killed Torres he would have become a hero and all the innocent people that were about to get killed would have survived. He would have saved millions of lives.  Not to mention his business getting more appreciation that it ever did.  “The avenger of our people. A name to remember” – “he was the town barber; no one knew he was fighting for our cause.”  In The Incredible it resulted in a bad way for their community. Because Syndrome wanted to be just like Mr. Incredible and since he could not be he decided to take revenge and the whole city had to suffer because he used his technology powers for evil.  If everyone was equal this would not happen.  These acts demonstrate how our actions have consequences and how they are so precious. They can be good or bad no matter how you choose to display them. Both of these stories show that we need to be careful how our actions come across to other people. They can result in good or bad behaviour. Our actions can become our identity and we can choose to let go of it or embrace it and make a difference no matter who you turn out to be at the end of it. These two stories share a very common theme and it was very easy to compare them both because both of them shared a lot of similarities together.

Demi Lovato is one of my favorite singers in the world. she is truly inspirational. I always look to her whenever i need musical guidance. Seeing her perform and have so many people that love her motivates me to be like her someday. It also encourages me to never give up because i know that one day i will make it there.
